Linen, Cotton or Blend: Which Fabric for Your Curtains
There's no such thing as the "best" fabric: there's the right one for your room. Here's how the fabrics we use most tend to behave.
Linen
It's our favourite for curtains: it falls naturally, filters light with a warm veil and ages beautifully. It has a living texture, slightly irregular, that you can both see and feel. It creases a little: that's part of its charm, not a flaw.
Cotton
More even and compact than linen, it offers full colours and a soft hand. It's a versatile choice that's easy to match, ideal when you want a bold colour and a uniform surface.
Blends
A linen-cotton blend combines the drape of linen with the stability of cotton: fewer creases, good body, balanced results. It's often the most practical compromise for anyone who wants the character of linen with less upkeep.
How to decide
Think about the light coming in and how much you want to filter it, then look at the drape: a heavier fibre creates more pronounced folds. When in doubt, order samples and hold them against the window at different times of day.
