Roman blinds: when to choose them
A Roman blind rises and lowers, gathering into horizontal folds. It's tidy, takes up very little space and shows off the fabric: a clean choice for many rooms.
Where they work best
Kitchens, bathrooms and small windows or those close to a worktop: a Roman blind sits within the window recess and doesn't take over the wall. It's also ideal in the bedroom when you want a pared-back look.
Flat or battened
The flat version forms soft folds as it gathers; the battened one has horizontal rods that keep the folds crisp and even, for a more architectural result.
The controls
It can be operated by chain (simple and reliable) or motorised, handy for tall windows or ones that are hard to reach. The mechanism stays hidden at the top.
The fabric matters
A sheer fabric gives you soft, diffused light; a denser one blocks more. Order a sample to see how the light passes through the fabric when the blind is lowered.
